Catching Up: Random Lily Facts

I know I'm a bad blogger. I just really am having a hard time finding the time to post all that I want to. Lily is a high maintenance, velcro baby and just wants to bang on my computer every time I sit down to type. Needless to say, she has deleted icons, changed my internet explorer setup and just plain messed up some thingson my computer in her computer practice. So here are some random facts about my sweet girl...

Lily is now 11 months old. She does something new and amazing every day. She now sits up like a champ. Sits from a laying down position. She gets on her knees and even gets in a push-up position but she can't seem to consistently master the crawling technique. She crawled about 4 feet for Grandpa last week but hasn't done it again since. She can pull herself up to her knees and can stand once we get her upright while holding our hands or the couch.

She LOVES bath time and splashing with her rubber duckies. That is the ONLY time that she doesn't jump with excitement when I reach my arms out to her. She just loves her splash splash time. She also loves to sit at Daddy's feet and play with his shoe strings.

She waves hello and good-bye and just in the past few days has started clapping her hands to music and, some times, just when I scream YAY to her. It's so cute. She squeals and babbles and loves the sound of her voice. She also loves to look at herself in the mirror and she loves to look at pictures of herself on the computer or on my phone. I let her play with my phone and she has deleted icons on it also. It took me about 10 minutes to find my text messaging icon. I just can't help it though because I can just turn the camera on and make it so that she can see herself in the screen and she just giggles with delight. It is so adorable.

She loves to watch Nick, Jr. and especially to watch The Fresh Beat Band with Grandpa. I think it's cause he dances with her. She loves Miss Spider's Sunny Patch and Olivia the pig. I have caught Jeff zoning out to it when he doesn't know I'm looking.

Our little one now has 5 teeth, 2 on the top and 3 on the bottom. This hasn't given her a better appetite though. She still is eating formula with rice cereal and stage 2 and 2.5 baby food. She LOVES green beans and will eat the whole jar. Some of her other faves are chicken and rice, peas and just plain thickened rice cereal. She doesn't eat solids or "puffs" and we are anxious for the time when she will eat real food with us. She just hasn't gotten the hang of that yet and makes the worst face when we pop a puff in her mouth.

Her favorite toy is her laptop. She has a pink and purple one at home and a blue and yellow one at Grandma and Grandpa's. She also likes her stacking toys and loves to take the rings and just bang them against things. She still loves her woobies too and chews them until they put her to sleep. We know she is tired when we hear the sounds of wooby chewing. She really likes anything with buttons and plays with the remote controls all the time. She can switch the light switch off with prompting and gives high-fives. She wants to touch and hold everything and cries when she doesn't get her way. I'm afraid we have spoiled her rotten. It's so hard not to. She gives me the biggest open mouth smooches and tight squeezes...it warms my heart every time. I never thought I would have a child to love like this and who would love me so unconditionally. It brings me to tears almost daily.

The only real problem we continue to have is sleeping. It has gotten better but we still have a ways to go. She will surprise me and sleep the whole night through and then the next night be up every 30 minutes. Last night she slept from 8:30pm to 1am and then she woke up and would absolutely not sleep unless she was plastered to my chest. I am very sleep deprived but have definitely adjusted to survival on very little rest. The one thing that has truly suffered has been my diet and exercise. I have gained quite a bit of weight since we've been home and it pains me to look at myself. Blah. I am determined to get this under control though. Wish me luck. I need to stay healthy for myself and for Lily so I can be active with her as she grows.

So there goes...a bunch of Lily babbling. I am just so amazed by her and some days I am in disbelief that this is the same child we met on May 15th who couldn't hold up her head, had no interest in toys and weighed 11 lbs. She is growing so fast and I just want to enjoy every single second with her.

Bee Bop

Lily is undoubtedly a musical child. She loves music...on TV, in her little toys, when Mommy and Daddy sing to her, and now we know that she loves jazz music too. We were looking for something to do this weekend and we found ourselves with Grandma and Grandpa at a jazz festival downtown. It was so nice. We brought our little foldy chairs, Lily's BOB and just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful weather and good music.

Lily loved bee-bopping with Daddy

And squishing Grandpa's cheeks

Lily danced to the music, did plenty of people watching and surprised us when she bursted out in tears. We couldn't figure out what was wrong until we noticed a trend. She would scream and cry at the end of every song, after the clapping ended and there was silence. She was so upset when there was no more music but she quieted as soon as another song started. What a quirky baby. It is so amazing to learn what she likes and doesn't like and to see her little personality just shine. She makes everything so much fun!!

That's my girl.

Trick or Treat

I am making Lily's Halloween costume and the first piece arrived in the mail today....
Any guesses???

Never forget the wait and a re-post

Every single day with Lily is so amazing. Today I looked at her while she slept in my arms and just savored every pore of her skin, strand of her hair, fold in her ear, every perfect little finger, the way her chest rises and falls with each sweet baby breath and I was once again in awe of the miracle that has blessed us. Every thing about this child is so perfect to me, even the agonizingly painful 5 years that we waited for her. I would change NOTHING. I will, however, always remember that ache in my heart that longed for HER. I know very well the dull but constant throbbing of empty arms. I only have to re-read some of my blog posts to re-live some of the raw emotions that plagued the pre-Lily me. If only I had known that MY DAUGHTER would be at the end of that wait...wow, would I have left some of that pain behind and been so freaking excited. As I watch my little one and look forward to the next time she reaches her arms out wide to me with huge "I love my mommy" dimply grins, the next time she devours my face with her open mouth, slobbery kisses, the next time she is overcome with drowsiness and I am able to sing her to sleep in my not-so-beautiful-but-who-cares voice, I can't help but remember how much I wanted to be HER mommy and I know that I would have waited a million years for her, my perfect little bean.

This is one of the blog posts I came across as I was browing my blog today...and it means so much more to me now that I know my child's face. My heart is full....

My sweet baby girl,

One day you will be born into this world. It's scary here some times and I worry that this world won't be good enough for you. I promise that I will protect you from electric sockets, mean people and sharp table corners. You will cry and I will hold you and sing you lullabies.

One day you will be a toddler. I worry that you may get sick or that there will be mean people who cross your path. I promise that I will protect you from unkind words and icky germs. You will cry and I will hold you and rub your head and tell you that everything will be ok.

One day you will be a child. I worry that you will feel insecure, that you won't see the gifts inside of you. I promise that I will be your biggest fan and protect you from sadness. You will cry and I will hold you and remind you of how special you are.

One day you will be a teenager. I am worried that someone will break your heart, that you will want to grow up and not be my baby anymore. I promise that I will be here to encourage you through heartache, to teach you all I know about life and let go just enough. You will cry and I will hold you, wipe away your tears and listen to your dreams.

One day you will be a woman. It's scary here and some times I am worried that this world will not be good enough for you. I promise to prepare you for what lies ahead and to show you how beautiful it can be. You will cry and I will hold you and smile. You are my butterfly. I can't wait to see you soar.

Love,

Your Mommy

RIP Keurig

Keurig Platinum was born in to my house approximately 3 years ago. It was a product of the failure of several other coffee pots (both whole pot and single cup varieties) that weren't quite right. The coffee wasn't hot enough, didn't taste good, made too much for a single person's coffee habit and ended with a lot going down the sink...

It was love at first sight. Just the right amount of coffee, great flavor variety with the K-cups, just hot enough, perfect for an early morning cup and then an afternoon/evening one if the desire presented itself. And so it was for several years. Until yesterday.
I placed my "Drama Queen" coffee mug in it's spot on the pedestal beneath the coffee flowing spigot filled with the perfect combo of sweet-n-low and light coffee-mate. I rushed around trying to get Lily's rice cereal breakfast made and her first morning bottle on stand-by. I pressed the BREW button and.....NOTHING. No beautiful sound of water being sucked out of the tank to heat and become my yummy morning staple. No drip drip through the Butter Toffee K-cup to fill my Drama Queen mug. NOTHING.

I searched on the internet, tried the de-scaling with the near gallon of vinegar required. I had high hopes that it was just a dirty Keurig and that it would resume it's coffee-producing harmony promptly but I was sorely disillusioned.

So now I am a PMS ridden, coffee-less mommy stuck inside on a rainy Sunday, mourning the loss of my companion, the Keurig. How will I ever go on?!?

Uncles

I'm breaking a blog rule by posting a picture of my brother but - oh well. Lily is so lucky to have so many family members who love her. Of course, I have to say that, beyond that, we are all so lucky to have her in our lives. In fact, luck doesn't even describe what has brought us all together.

Lily has aunts, grand-peeps, cousins, cousin-puppies and UNCLES...

No pictures yet of a few more uncles but, if mommy has her way with the camera, there will be tons more to come.

Look Who's Sitting Herself Up!

It's been a long time coming but Lily figured out how to sit herself up from a lying down position. I have been trying to work with her for literally months on this and she isn't doing it at all the way I was trying to show her but she's doing it! This tells me that she definitely has a mind of her own. I was looking at some of the videos of the first few days we had with her in China and it just amazes me how much she has grown and developed. Every day is an adventure...a sweet and wonderful adventure!

Meeting more family

A couple weeks ago, Jeff and I decided to seize the moment, throw our bags in the car and head to Florida so that Lily could meet some more of her family, including her great aunts and Great Great Grandpa. I was a little nervous about the 600+ mile car trip but she did superbly. She took naps, sang songs, ate fruit and yogurt parfaits from McD's with mommy, had a few poopy emergency stops - so much better than I anticipated. Our little girl NEVER ceases to amaze me not only with her resilience and bravery but also with the instant smiles she is able to elicit from those around her. I look at her and just know in my heart that this little girl was created for our family. No child could fit any better in to our crazy world.

I was so happy that we had a chance to see my Grandfather and my Aunt Susie...
Lily also got to meet her great Aunt Diana

And she was so happy to be held by her Great Grandpa. It was amazing to see him with her. My heart hurt for a little while just thinking about how much my Grandma L. would have loved our little girl. She passed away a couple of years ago...during our wait for Lily. She knew about her and was so excited to welcome her first great grandchild. I have to believe that she was there with us that day too and has held Lily's hand before.

I think Lily stole the heart of her Auntie Susie.

It was a fast but great trip and we really hope that we all get to see each other very, very soon!!

Puppies!!

Our little girl is FEARLESS. We don't have a dog in our house....yet. She seems to love our family's four-legged companions so I think it's only a matter of time before I hear the words, "Daddy, me want a puppy." Of course we have only had her around the best behaved doggies in the world and under very close supervision.

Hi Mocha! Mwah!

Yeah I'll share my blankie with you.

Ok Archimedes, you have licked my face and I'm not sure what to do with that.

Ok Chelsea let me squeeze your face.

You can try to run but I'll get you anyway.
